Car transport from Spain to France runs along one of the busiest vehicle corridors in Western Europe. Take the classic example, Barcelona to Paris: about 1,035 km by road, up the AP-7 past Girona, across the border at La Jonquera and onto the French A9, then north to the capital. Rather than driving that yourself, a professional carrier loads your car onto a multi-level trailer with 8 to 12 other vehicles, which is exactly why the price per car stays sensible.

Who books this route? Expats relocating for work, owners of second homes heading north after a season on the Costas, buyers collecting a Spanish car purchased online, and dealers moving stock between the two markets. Whatever the reason, the mechanics are the same as any car transport across Europe: door-to-door collection and delivery, insured carriers, and no customs paperwork because the whole journey stays inside the EU.

How much does car transport from Spain to France cost?

For a standard car on an open carrier over the Barcelona to Paris distance of roughly 1,035 km, expect 880 to 1,140 euros excluding VAT. Where you land inside that range depends on a few practical things: the exact pickup and delivery addresses (city-centre streets are slower to serve than addresses near the motorway), the size and weight of the vehicle, whether it runs and drives, how flexible you are on dates, and the season. Summer relocations fill trailers fastest.

Enclosed transport, the right choice for classics and exotics, typically adds 40 to 70% on top. French motorway tolls for heavy vehicles are already built into the price you are quoted. For an exact number on your own address pair, request a free quote online; it takes a couple of minutes.

How long does delivery take?

A solo driver can cover Barcelona to Paris in around 10 hours of motorway driving. A loaded car transporter needs longer: it collects and delivers several vehicles along the corridor and the driver has to respect EU rest rules, so the road leg alone usually spreads over more than one day. Door to door, two things decide your total: the pickup window, how flexible you are on collection dates, and route occupancy, how quickly the carrier fills the remaining spots on that departure. Spain to France is a high-frequency corridor, so cars rarely wait long for a slot. We also run the reverse leg, car transport from France to Spain, plus the neighbouring car transport from France to Italy corridor, which keeps trailers full in both directions.

Why book a carrier instead of driving?

✓ No extra 1,000 km on the clock ✓ Door-to-door pickup and delivery ✓ Insured, verified carriers ✓ Open or enclosed options ✓ No customs inside the EU ✓ No fuel, tolls or overnight stops

Planning to drive in central Paris once the car arrives? Foreign-registered vehicles need a Crit'Air sticker inside the low emission zone on weekdays, and only the cleaner categories are allowed, so order yours online before delivery day.

Good to know

How does the booking and transport process work?

Start with the online quote form: route, vehicle, rough dates. Once you book, we match your car with a verified carrier heading that way and confirm a pickup window. On collection day the driver inspects the car with you and notes its condition on the transport document before loading. You pay nothing before pickup. On delivery you check the car against your photos and sign once you are happy. Read how we vet carriers on our why Send Your Auto page.

Do I need to re-register the car in France?

If the move is permanent, yes. France expects you to register the car within a month of establishing residence. You will need the Spanish papers (permiso de circulacion and ficha tecnica), a certificate of conformity, and in many cases a quitus fiscal from your local French tax office confirming no VAT is due; cars over four years old also need a valid roadworthiness test. There are no customs duties inside the EU. For a holiday or a temporary stay, the car simply keeps its Spanish plates.

How should I prepare the car for transport?

Wash it so existing marks are easy to see, take timestamped photos from every angle, and leave no more than a quarter tank of fuel. Remove personal belongings, including the Via-T toll tag, or it may keep charging as the trailer passes toll gantries. Switch off the alarm, fold in the mirrors and check tyre pressures. Moving a van as well? We handle van transport on the same corridor.

Can you move a car that does not start?

Yes. Non-runners are loaded with a winch, so tell us upfront that the car will not run and drive. It narrows the choice of carriers and costs a little more, but it is routine work: project cars, accident-damaged vehicles and barn finds travel this route all the time.

Is the car insured during transport?

Yes, carriers hold cargo insurance covering loading, transit and unloading. Coverage levels vary, so ask for the specifics of the carrier assigned to your booking. Personal items left inside the car are not covered, another reason to empty it before pickup. Keep your photos until the car has been delivered and checked.
