Amsterdam to Malaga is roughly 2,300 km by road. Driven yourself, that means more than two long days behind the wheel, French motorway tolls, fuel, and at least one hotel night, then the same again on the way back. Put the car on a professional transporter instead and it travels south while you fly. It shares the trailer with 8 to 12 other vehicles, which is exactly why the price stays sensible compared with any private solution.
This corridor is booked above all by Dutch and Belgian owners who winter on the Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca and want their own car waiting at the apartment, plus families relocating permanently and buyers collecting a car purchased in the Netherlands. Our car transport service covers the whole route door to door, with verified and insured carriers and nothing to pay before pickup.
How much does car transport from the Netherlands to Spain cost?
For a standard car on an open transporter, a move on the scale of Amsterdam to Malaga typically costs 1,380 to 1,960 euros ex VAT. Where you land inside that band depends on a few things: the exact pickup and delivery addresses (Girona or Barcelona sit much closer than Malaga or Marbella), the size and weight of the vehicle, whether it starts and drives, and the season. Enclosed transport, worth considering for classics and high-value cars, typically adds 40 to 70% to the open price.

How long does delivery take?
The driving alone is around 22 to 23 hours for 2,300 km, and a loaded transporter never does that in one stretch. Legal rest breaks plus other pickups and deliveries along the way turn the trip into a matter of days, not hours. Door to door, the two things that decide your dates are the pickup window (a flexible window is far easier to serve than one fixed day) and how full the route is when you book. Southbound trailers fill quickly in autumn as the wintering crowd heads down, and northbound space tightens again in spring. Because our network also runs corridors such as car transport from Italy to the Netherlands, trailers stay loaded in both directions, which keeps schedules regular and prices sharp.

How does booking work?
You fill in the quote form with the basics: make and model, running condition, pickup point in the Netherlands, destination in Spain and your preferred dates. You get a price in minutes and book when you are ready. On pickup day the driver inspects the car with you and notes its condition on the Bill of Lading; at delivery you check it again against those notes and your own photos before signing.
Do I need to re-register the car in Spain?
If you are wintering as a non-resident, no: the car can stay on Dutch or Belgian plates for the season, as long as it remains taxed and insured at home. If you become a Spanish resident, you must move the car onto Spanish plates, which involves an ITV inspection (the Spanish equivalent of the APK) and local road tax, and residents are expected to sort this out within about a month. A car that arrives as part of your household move may qualify for an exemption from Spanish registration tax. There is no customs paperwork inside the EU: both countries are member states, so the transport needs no import documents. And for later moves within the country, our car transport in Spain covers domestic routes too.
How should I prepare the car?
- Leave a quarter tank of fuel at most.
- Wash it and take timestamped photos from all sides.
- Remove personal belongings, toll tags and loose accessories.
- Switch off the alarm, fold in the mirrors and check tyre pressures.
- Mention anything unusual upfront: roof boxes, lowered suspension, modifications.
Can you move a car that will not start?
Yes. Non-runners are loaded with a winch, so tell us from the start that the car does not start or drive. That way we assign a carrier with the right equipment and the quote is accurate the first time. Expect a somewhat higher price, because loading takes longer.
Is the car insured during transport?
Yes. Our carrier partners hold cargo insurance that covers transport-related damage from loading to unloading. Cover levels vary by carrier, so ask us for the details of your specific transport before pickup. Personal items left inside the car are not covered, which is one more good reason to empty it completely.
Practical tip: if you winter in Spain, book the southbound slot two to four weeks ahead and stay flexible on the exact pickup day. Autumn is the busiest season on this corridor, and flexible bookings get the best prices and the earliest trucks.
