Car transport from Italy to Spain is one of the longest corridors we cover, and one of the busiest. A real job from our price table: a Mercedes GLA from Brescia to Malaga, 1914 km and about 21 driving hours along the whole Mediterranean arc: Liguria, the French Riviera, the border at La Jonquera, then down the Spanish coast. Driving it yourself means fuel, tolls in three countries and an overnight stop; a transporter spares you all of it.

Who books it? Mostly people relocating to Spain, owners of a second home on the Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca, retirees wintering in the south, and buyers or sellers moving a vehicle between the two countries. For our car transport service it is a standard run: door to door on a multi-car carrier, with nothing to pay before pickup.

How much does car transport from Italy to Spain cost?

A concrete example from our own price table: the Mercedes GLA from Brescia to Malaga costs 1150 to 1630 euros without VAT. That covers a compact SUV over the full 1914 km on an open carrier, door to door. Shorter combinations, say northern Italy to Barcelona or Valencia, tend to sit lower; remote villages, larger vehicles and enclosed trailers push the figure up.

The price moves with the exact addresses, the size and weight of the vehicle, whether it starts and drives, open or enclosed transport, and how flexible your dates are. Flexibility matters: the last free spot on a truck already heading south costs less than a special detour. For a firm number, request a free quote with your route and vehicle details: the price arrives in minutes.

How long does car transport from Italy to Spain take?

The driving alone is about 21 hours on the Brescia to Malaga example, so no carrier runs it in one hop. Trucks collect cars across northern Italy, follow the coastal motorways through southern France and drop vehicles along the Spanish coast. Door-to-door time comes down to the pickup window, when a truck with a free spot passes your area, and how full the route is that week. Plan in days, not hours, with some slack at both ends. In autumn, when the wintering crowd moves south, southbound spots go early; the same happens northbound in spring.

Why book a transporter instead of driving it down?

✓ No extra kilometres on the clock ✓ No toll and fuel bills in three countries ✓ No overnight stops en route ✓ Door to door in both countries ✓ Verified and insured carriers ✓ No payment before pickup

Heading south for the winter? Ask for your quote a few weeks ahead: autumn is high season here and early bookings get the best dates and rates. Taking a motorhome too? We also arrange camper and motorhome transport.

How does car transport from Italy to Spain work?

Get your quote with the pickup and delivery towns, the make and model, and whether the car runs. Once you book, we match the job to a verified carrier working the corridor. At pickup the driver inspects the car with you, notes its condition on the transport document and straps it down. Italy and Spain are both in the EU, so there is no customs clearance and no import duty: the truck simply crosses the borders. At delivery you check the car against your photos before signing. Questions? Our team answers by phone and WhatsApp.

Do I have to re-register my Italian car in Spain?

Not for a holiday or a season in the sun: your Italian plates stay valid. If you move to Spain permanently, the car must go onto Spanish plates within a short deadline of becoming resident. Expect three steps: an ITV inspection (the Spanish roadworthiness test) with your Italian registration document and the Certificate of Conformity, the registration and road taxes, and finally registration with the DGT, the Spanish traffic authority. Start early, check the current DGT requirements, and keep every Italian vehicle document to hand.

How should I prepare the car for the journey?
  • Wash it and take timestamped photos from every angle.
  • Leave about a quarter of a tank of fuel, no more.
  • Empty the car: boot, glovebox, loose mats and any Telepass or toll tag.
  • Switch off the alarm and fold in the mirrors.
  • Check the tyre pressures and mention any quirks upfront.
Can you move a car that does not start?

Yes. Non-runners travel this corridor all the time: project cars, classics bought unseen, accident repairs. The carrier needs a winch on board, so tell us the car does not run when you ask for the quote, not on pickup day. Ideally it should still roll, steer and brake; if not, say so and we will plan for it.

Is the car insured during transport?

Our carriers hold cargo insurance covering the vehicle during loading, transit and unloading. Cover levels vary, so ask for the details when you book. Personal items left inside are not covered, one more reason to empty the car. More on how we vet carriers: why Send Your Auto.
