Car transport from Italy to Poland is one of the busiest long-distance corridors we cover. The classic example is Milan to Warsaw: roughly 1,530 km by road, crossing Austria and the Czech Republic, with an Alpine pass and four different toll systems on the way. Instead of driving it yourself, your car travels on a professional multi-level trailer with 8 to 12 other vehicles, which keeps the price per car sensible.

Who books this route? Poles living and working in northern Italy who are moving back home, buyers who have found a used car or an Italian classic at the right price and need it delivered to Warsaw, Krakow or Wroclaw, and companies moving staff or vehicles between the two countries. Our car transport service is door to door: the carrier collects in Italy and delivers to a Polish address. Heading somewhere closer? We also cover car transport from Italy to Germany and car transport from Italy to Austria along the same corridor.

How much does car transport from Italy to Poland cost?

For a standard car on an open trailer, a Milan to Warsaw move of around 1,530 km typically comes in at 920 to 1,300 euros excluding VAT. Long routes like this have a lower per-kilometre rate than short hops, since the truck runs motorway almost the whole way.

What moves the price inside that range? The exact pickup and delivery points (an address near the motorway is easier to serve than a remote village), the size and weight of the vehicle, whether it starts and drives, how flexible your dates are, and how full the trucks are that week. Enclosed transport, the sensible choice for classics and high-value cars, typically adds 40 to 70% to the open price. These figures are for a standard car; van transport is priced separately. For a firm number, request a free quote with your addresses and vehicle details: you'll have a price in minutes.

How long does it take?

The drive itself is around 15 hours of pure motorway time. A loaded car carrier doesn't do that in one stretch: drivers follow EU rest rules, and the truck usually collects and delivers other vehicles along the route. Door to door, think of it as a pickup window first, then transit. How quickly the whole job completes depends mainly on when the next truck with a free slot passes your area and how busy the corridor is that week. Flexible dates nearly always mean a faster match and a better price. Demand also rises before summer and the December holidays, so book earlier around those periods.

Why ship it instead of driving?

✓ No 1,500 km added to the clock ✓ Door to door across four countries ✓ Insured, verified carriers ✓ No tolls, vignettes or fuel bills ✓ No payment before pickup ✓ Non-runners travel too

Good to know

How does booking and pickup work?

Start with a free quote: make and model, whether it runs, both addresses and your rough dates. Once you confirm, we match the car with a verified carrier heading for Poland and agree a pickup window. On collection day the driver inspects the vehicle with you, notes its condition on the transport document and straps it down. At delivery in Poland you check it against your photos before signing.

Do I have to re-register the car in Poland?

If the car is staying permanently, yes. The good news first: inside the EU there are no customs duties and nothing to clear at the border. Poland does charge excise duty (akcyza) on cars brought into the country, declared online through the PUESC portal: currently 3.1% of the car's value for petrol engines up to 2.0 litres and 18.6% above that, while fully electric cars are exempt. You then register at the local vehicle office within 30 days, usually with sworn translations of the Italian documents. Rules do change, so check the official Polish sources before you commit.

How should I prepare the car?

Wash it so existing marks are easy to see, take timestamped photos from every angle, and leave about a quarter tank of fuel, no more. Remove personal belongings, toll tags and loose accessories, switch off the alarm, fold in the mirrors and check the tyre pressures. Roof boxes and bike racks should come off before loading.

Can you move a car that doesn't start?

Yes. Plenty of vehicles on this corridor are auction finds, project cars or classics that haven't run in years. Carriers load them with a winch, but they must know in advance: a non-runner needs a specific spot on the trailer and usually costs a little more. Mention it in the quote form and the price you receive will already reflect it.

Is the car insured during transport?

Yes. Our verified carriers hold cargo insurance that covers the vehicle during loading, transit and unloading. Cover levels vary from carrier to carrier, so ask us for the details of your booking. Anything left inside the car is not covered, one more reason to empty it out. You can read how we vet our carriers on the why Send Your Auto page.

Practical tip: never leave the original Italian registration documents in the car. Carry them yourself or send them separately; you'll need the originals to register in Poland, and paperwork left in a vehicle isn't covered by cargo insurance.
