How booking and a deposit work

Booking car transport is simpler than most people expect: you get a quote, confirm the details, and the carrier collects and delivers your car. Payment is designed to be fair to both sides, which usually means little or nothing changes hands before your car is safely collected. This guide walks through each step so you know exactly what to expect.

What are the steps from quote to delivery?

The process is short and there are no surprises hidden in it. From first enquiry to final delivery, it follows the same clear path.

  1. Request a free quote. Tell us the collection and delivery locations, the car, and roughly when you need it, using the quote form.
  2. Review your price. We come back with a no-obligation price and answer any questions you have.
  3. Confirm the booking. Once you are happy, we confirm your details and start matching a suitable carrier.
  4. Agree a collection window. The driver contacts you to arrange a time that works for you.
  5. Collection and delivery. The car is loaded, checked, transported and delivered to your chosen address.

For most journeys the car is delivered within a few days of collection, though the exact timing depends on the route and how loads combine. Our guide on how long car transport takes explains the timings in more detail.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Whether a deposit is needed depends on the booking. For many standard moves nothing is required up front, and payment is handled around collection or delivery. Some bookings, particularly bespoke or long-distance international jobs, may ask for a small deposit to secure the carrier and the date.

If a deposit does apply to your booking, we tell you the amount clearly before you commit, along with when the balance is due. There are no hidden charges added later, and the free quote stage never commits you to anything at all.

A deposit, where it applies, is simply a way of holding the slot and the carrier for you, much as you would expect when booking any specialist service. It is deducted from the total, not added on top, so it is part of the price you were quoted rather than an extra.

When do I pay the balance?

The balance is normally settled at collection or on delivery, depending on the arrangement agreed when you book. We confirm the exact method and timing in writing so there are no surprises on the day itself.

Because the amount is fixed at the quote stage, the figure you agree is the figure you pay for the agreed service. If anything about the job genuinely changes, for example an added non-runner winch or a different address, we discuss it with you first rather than simply adding it.

Paying at collection or delivery also gives you a natural moment to check that everything is as agreed. You confirm the car, see the condition report, and settle up knowing the job has been done. It is a straightforward, low-risk way to handle payment for both sides.

What does “nothing to pay before pickup” mean?

It simply means that, for a typical booking, you are not asked to hand over the full cost before your car has been collected. It is a reassurance point: your money is not tied up while the car is still sitting on your drive.

It does not always mean literally zero at every stage, since a small deposit can apply to certain jobs as described above. What it does mean is that the bulk of the payment is linked to the car actually being collected and delivered, which keeps the whole process fair and low-risk for you.

If you are ever asked to pay everything in advance with no clear reason, treat it as a prompt to ask more questions, as we cover in our guide on choosing a reliable car transport company.

What confirmation will I receive?

Once your booking is set, you receive written confirmation of the key details: the collection and delivery addresses, the vehicle, the agreed price, and how and when to pay. You also have a point of contact for any questions along the way.

Closer to the day, the driver arranges the collection window with you directly. At collection and delivery the car’s condition is recorded in writing and with photographs, which protects both you and the carrier. Good to know

Is the quote really free and no-obligation?

Yes. Asking for a quote costs nothing and does not commit you to booking. You are free to compare it, think it over, or simply not proceed.

How can I pay?

We confirm the accepted payment methods when you book, along with when payment is due. Everything is set out in writing so you know exactly what to expect on the day. If you have a preference, just ask us when you book.

What if I need to change the collection date?

Let us know as early as you can and we will do our best to adjust the plan. The sooner you tell us, the easier it is to rearrange the carrier and keep things smooth.

Is a deposit refundable if I cancel?

This depends on the terms of your booking and how close it is to collection. We explain any deposit terms clearly before you commit, so there is nothing hidden.
